The Wish Collector transports the twins to a strange and magical world known as the Land of Sometimes. It is an extraordinary place where all four seasons can pass in a single day and where wishes can become reality.
Alfie and Elise are given a total of six wishes, but they soon discover that getting what you wish for does not always produce the result you expect. Their adventure takes them across a fantastical world filled with unusual creatures, magical locations and dangerous situations.
As the twins try to find their way home, they gradually discover that the most important thing they have been searching for is not another wish, but the love and strength they share as a family.
The film is based on Francesca Longrigg's children's audiobook and features original songs associated with Tim Rice, Pete Hobbs and Francesca Longrigg. 1
🎬 Movie Review
The Land of Sometimes is a colourful animated fantasy adventure built around childhood imagination, wishes and family. The story takes two young siblings and places them inside an unusual world where the normal rules of time and nature no longer apply.
The concept of a land where four seasons pass within a single day gives the film a distinctive fantasy setting. Alfie and Elise must quickly learn how this strange world works while dealing with the consequences of the wishes they have been granted.
The film also benefits from an extensive voice cast. Ewan McGregor voices the Wish Collector, Helena Bonham Carter voices Mediocris, Asa Butterfield voices the Lad with the Flying Feet, while Alisha Weir and Andrei Shen voice Elise and Alfie respectively. 2
The musical element is an important part of the film. The production features original songs connected with lyricist Tim Rice and composer Pete Hobbs, adding songs and musical sequences to the fantasy adventure. 3
At its centre, the story is about two siblings learning to appreciate family and understand that wishes can have unexpected consequences. Their journey through the magical island provides the adventure while their relationship provides the emotional foundation.
